Angela Kathamuthu, a civil advocate, visits Madras Central Prison to interview inmates for a documentary on the death penalty. While tensions mount within the prison walls, she meets Virumaandi and Kothaala Thevar, who are sentenced to death and life respectively for their roles in perpetrating the massacre of 24 people during a brutal clash between feuding villages. However, as she listens to their conflicting versions of the same story, Angela realises Virumaandi is being punished for a crime he did not commit.
